January 15th, 2008 pictures
The Concrete is here - so is the Mud, Cold and Snow Flurries!

The guys showed up when they said they would and on time - Great!

Packing down the 60 yards of select fill inside the building.

Working on the side door ramp outside - house is to the right. we made this longer for a more 'gentle' slope here.

They actually have their bobcat tractor (in front of building at top left) INSIDE this single axle truck with ALL you can imagine!

The front apron is getting framed in. See some of the leftover truckload of crusher-run we put under the aprons - more fill!

After the rains last Friday, it is REALLY wet - you will see more in later pictures - need a river or lake name maybe?

Inside they put down a vapor barrier and then the mesh rebar.

Another look at the inside preparation - note they are wrapping the walls so no slop will get on the inside of the walls - nice!

Vapor barrier right to the outside of the building.

Crusher run on the big front door apron packed down - another 15 yards of fill - did I mention the dump truck got stuck - more later!

Looking in at the prep from the big front door - note the cement truck thru the other door top right is waiting.

Did you ever wonder why a cement truck is a 4 wheel drive vehicle? Close to the pour is best?

Note the pumping action at the top left of the truck - it really goes in and three guys inside try to keep up with the delivery.

Ahhhhh . . .the select fill, the crusher run and the water = deep ruts!!

The pour continues inside.

Maryland Portable is right in Elkton about 8 miles from the location. Yep, he's in there about 6" and that the stone fill too!

Another view of where the driveway will someday be located - maybe a small bridge will be in order to the building?

Love the ruts?

The future driveway in the foreground and the existing driveway in the background. A FULL cement truck will pack it down for you!

A good foot in the ground.

The inside pour is almost done, preparation for the side door ramp is shown here.

Over half way thru the inside pout here.

More of the inside pout is happening. They pull up the wire mesh after
pouring to the middle of the 4" of concrete. They use a laser to
pitch the floor one inch from the back to the front - just perfect!

Three guys trying to work it out - what a demanding job. They started at 8Am and I left a 6Pm and they were still there - whew!

Beginning to shape up here.

Starting to look like a floor now. Not a drop on the walls - nice!

Finishing up the inside pour.

Oh the technology with the laser and the 2x4 for leveling off the pour!

Now to the front door apron.

The front apron ramp again here.

What a cold and demanding job this is and outside on a cold day!

A better view of the front apron area.

The finishing touches on the front apron.

Details, details make the job look nice.

Since the well was next to the building they did not want to let the cement
truck ride over the lines for the well and use the bobcat to bring the
concrete to the side door apron ramp - Thank you!

The final front ramp.

The bobcat taking the concrete to the side door apron ramp.

Overview of the pour - nice lawn now?

No there is nothing wrong with this picture - YES that is snow!

Snow and ruts, a fun day at the ranch!!

Covering the apron so the snow doesn't mar the apron cement that is still wet and cold!

Wider view of the apron pour.

Side ramp pour and covered for snow!

Giving the pour some air to setup.

Snow stopped for now and sun coming out - nice lawn here too!!

Inside the building and waiting for it to set and do the final smoothing.

Nice job on the 16' apron.

The concrete after about 2 hours is hard enough to walk on and now the final finish will be put on the floor inside.

The side ramp apron - about 14' long.

Note the way they leave a lip for the garage door and also will keep the water from the garage floor - nice touch here!

You can see how that lip will keep things out from the main inside floor.

Late in the day, getting cold, putting up plastic and blowing a heater in the side door - going to get in the 20's tonight!

Final shot for the evening - almost dark - more tomorrow - should look good.
I'm told Doors are schedule for next Tuesday the 22nd.
the building will be ready to move the McCormick museum into this building.
Hoping the project get moving soon. Lots to do inside
with electric and insulation for us! Will keep taking pictures.
